As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had the privilege to host a Gap Born to Fit party last night. Gap is celebrating its 40-year anniversary this year, and to celebrate, has re-engineered its 1969 jeans line in all new fits, styles and washes. And was it ever a good time!
As a Brand Enthusiast, I was able to invite quite a few lucky girls to attend - and was fortunate to have Brenna host the event. We energetically (at least in spirit!) climbed the 59 steps up to her gorgeous home (guided by my motivational signs, of course.

At the top, the girls were treated to a full spread of goodies courtesy of Gap. The guests had no idea what was in store for them...
First, I asked each girl to don a nametag, since not everyone knew each other.
We munched on appetizer treats, including "Born to Snack" popcorn (served in the darling branded bowl) and "Born to Indulge/Shop/Play/Love" M&Ms, and other enticing splurges.

The soundtrack for the evening's festivities was provided by yours truly; I handpicked and made "Girls, Denim & (No) Blues" CDs for each guest, and only slightly tweaked the song titles to fit the theme for the evening.
See below for the full playlist. No judging - the songs were chosen for their fit!

Before we dove into the jeans and the full-fledged shopping extravaganza, we gathered on the roofdeck to enjoy the gorgeous Chicago sunset.
With a roofdeck like Brenna (and her fantastic husband) owns, we were all seated comfortably around and could talk. I gave a quick, highly unprepared speech about what the party was about - and answered questions about Gap, the 1969 Born to Fit jeans, how I was selected and what was required of them (pretty much this: pick jeans, love jeans, shop Gap).
When the sun had fully set, we descended to the kitchen/Gap Jeans Bar to check out the jeans. Don'tcha just like the sound of that? Gap Jeans Bar. I know. Combines my two favorite things, too. As shown at the top of the post, there were the Sexy Boot in a medium wash, the Always Skinny in a dark wash and the Real Straight in a medium wash.
The girls and I immediately noticed - these weren't your Mom's jeans. If anyone walked into the party with a preconceived notion of what Gap jeans were like, they changed their mind pretty quickly. All ideas were changed fully as soon as the first girl tried them on. Wow! Each girl was stunned to see how long, lean, slim, stylish and, well, FIT they looked in them. Each style, each size, each wash - all the same. Perfect fits!

And the fabric, stitching, inseam, cut and general make of the jeans was far more detailed than ever before - the medium wash is incredibly soft - those jeans you could wear all day at work or to Target on a Saturday; the dark wash is perfect for a night out with heels or a casual brunch with flip flops.
Knowing my girlfriends, they are a hip bunch. They shop a lot, they like designer jeans, they love to look good (what woman doesn't?) and they will spend more if they think it is necessary to get the right quality and the right fit. I think the trying-on process proved to each girl that these ARE designer jeans - at everyday prices.
I loved watching each girl choose one or two pairs, head back to the Born to Fit(ting) rooms and come out to model their pick.

Looking good, huh? Born to Fit indeed!
Catwalking was not required, but everyone seemed happy to strike a pose.
I was the proud mama watching each girl squeal in delight to realize they fit in a smaller size, or could finally love a skinny jean!, or could even wear THOSE heels with the bootcut pair. I was proud to be able to show these girls the way. Thanks, Gap.
After the try-on session, we indulged in Giordano's thin crust pizza - a Chicago staple. Shopping works up an appetite! As an aside, I loved watching my friends, from all different circles or times of my life, mix and mingle together. All in the name of good jeans.
As the night wound down, I made sure each girl had gotten the pair of their dreams - and if not, I made sure to send them home with a Jeans certificate good for a pair of their choice at Gap. Some of the bootcut sizes were awfully long (not everyone in my life is, ahem, 5'12"), but most opted to take the pair and have them hemmed to just the right length - when they are free, it isn't much of a splurge!
Finally, each guest got to take a Born to Fit reusable tote bag for their goods - another great idea by Gap - and they were more than happy to mug for photos with 'em.

I may be born to blog, or boogie, or host parties, or tell long stories, or wear LONG jeans, or stay up late, or drink wine, or love Macs, or eat french fries, or miss Georgia...
But seriously?
My girls are Born to Fit in with one another.
Hugging their new friends, and clutching their new gifts, they embarked on the 59 steps down to leave for the night.
Thanks to all who attended, and especially to Justine from Brand About Town for allowing us the opportunity to try Gap's new jeans and enjoy one another. Check out the full set of pictures from the party here.
I certainly think we've proved to a lot of girls that Gap jeans are hip, cool, stylish, comfortable, sexy and made for every body. They are worth a second look if you've not been to Gap in awhile, and if you have, stop back in and check 'em out! You may never spend money on designer jeans again.
But wait! Don't go!
What's in it for you?
I have a contest. I have two prizes to award: a certificate for a FREE PAIR of Gap Jeans of your choice, and a $50 gift certificate for use at any Gap store.
What's the deal?
By Monday at 7 pm CT, tell me (in the comments) what YOU were born to do. I will choose, in a highly subjective, entirely random manner, the top two answers, and will re-post your answer in a special Born To blog next week, along with the prize announcements.
Ok. Got that?
What were YOU Born To do? Get creative. This isn't just "work." or "breathe." This has to be something CLEVER.
Jeans and Gap shopping is on the line, people!
All you blog lurkers (defined as those that visit but don't comment) are free to come out of the woodwork now! Thanks again Gap.
You and I? We're Born to Fit.

Colleen,
What a fun time! You did such a thoughtful job hosting the party. Every detail was perfect—from the teaser signs when we arrived to the 'born to' name tags, to the themed cd,to the food and drinks, to the gorgeous weather and the good company.
I am definitely going to get another pair of Gap skinny jeans and tell everyone about them. It is often a challenge for me to find jeans that are the right length. All the Gap jeans I tried on last evening worked perfectly! (Thanks Gap!!!)
You are such a great brand ambassador for Gap and now you have created lots more brand advocates for Gap jeans.
Thank you for the wonderful evening and please thank Gap for the jeans.
Amy
This was such a fun girls' night packed with sparkling conversation, the latest fashion, and great munchies & drinks. Looking around, we represented a pretty good cross-section of sizes/shapes—not unusual in and of itself—but finding a good pair of jeans can be like searching for a mate. Everyone has their own checklist, and usually one style does not fit all. So I can't get over how fabulous everyone looked in each of the three jean styles! We were all torn as to which style to place in our lovely tote. Doubtless there will be some future trips to the GAP. As you said, they really are Born to Fit! Thanks so much Colleen, Brenna, and Brand About Town for a wonderful evening and an amazing addition to our fall wardrobes!
Thanks Colleen for inviting me. Had a great time!
What a brilliant marketing setup — getting girls together with wine food and clothing!
Love the jeans and also couldn't decide which style to choose. Will have to go and get more when they get in stores.
Thank you much!
Elisa
Oh and I can't forget many thanks to the Gap and Brenna too!

Thank you Colleen for the invite! It was really a fabulous time. I was so surprised at how well the jeans fit everyone and they looked great! I plan to take my mom jeans shopping at the GAP tomorrow actually:)
I see why Brand About Town chose you to host this party. You did a great job infusing Gap's new slogan "Born to Fit" into the party atmosphere with the nametags and cds.
Again, it was a wonderful time, I hope there will be a next one soon:)
Cheryl
i was born to be a figment of your imagination. I don't really exist.
one thing I noticed; you have no plus sized friends. what size do the gap jeans go up to? 6? gross.
Even though we've been friends for years and colleagues for several of them, you continue to amaze and impress me with your branding and marketing expertise. The personal touches you added to the event were so you - on strategy, clever and funny. I can tell you had fun hosting the event and your flair made a good event even better.
I love anything free - but free, cute, hot jeans - are you kidding me?? It was like Christmas! I'm loving my new jeans and loving that their price point will make a second pair possible.
Thanks so much for including me in this fabulous event - I had a great time.
Tracy
Colleen:
Thank you for such a wonderful time on Tuesday (and Brenna too!). Every detail was perfect and fit the brand of the party...hmmm, I wonder what you do for a living?
It was so nice to meet new friends and relax in such wonderful company -- and get a pair of awesome, make-your-ass-look-great jeans to boot! (Can you tell I'm a boot cut kind of gal?)
I'm adding your clever jean mix cd to my ipod right now, so I can strut in Gap style on my way to work.

Born to be a SMARTASS
I do a lot of other stuff, but I tend to be a smartass while doing said other stuff.
You might be descended on by the masses, about to link your blog on my twitter :) enjoy the traffic.
LOVED LOVED LOVED the night! Thanks for letting me be a part of it.
I haven't put on a pair of Gap jeans since 1992 because they were always too short. I think I was the most surprised when I slid them on and they fit, even me, who is 5'10"!
I told my husband that I got a pair of skinny ankle jeans, a style that both of us have always said is made for people who are 100 lbs and 5'1" (I call those people 'small humans' as I have been 5'9" or taller since 8th grade). He took one look at me in the new jeans and said, 'yeah, I like skinny ankle jeans now!'
Col, you did a great job. The CD, the snacks, the signs, everything! I would be happy to host the next event again and this time we will make the hallway a cat walk!!
Cheers,
Brenna
I’m flattered to have been part of such a fantastic evening. Gap’s new 1969 jean line was love at first try-on. I grabbed a pair of the Real Straight and Sexy Boot – both fit like they were made just for my body! I went home with the Real Straight pair - they are going to be a staple for years. I have always been a jeans enthusiast, and Gap is no exception. The brand continues to impress me with its latest 1969 line – truly a beautiful blue jean dream come true! The right fit, the perfect wash, an A++. And I couldn’t get over how fabulous everyone looked, no matter what pair they tried on!
Colleen, you have a way putting the most thoughtful touches in the details. From the minute I began the 59-step climb to the party, to the music, the food and drink, the jean bar, and the fabulous company, the entire evening was a perfectly branded event. (I’ve been talking about it to everyone since.)
Brenna, thank you so much for hosting us in your gorgeous home – what an amazing view!
Brand About Town and Gap, a thousand hugs for my new favorite pair of jeans. I may just sleep in them, and I’m certain to buy another pair this fall - a girl sticks with a solid pair of jeans.
Getting a free pair of sexy, designer jeans, catching up with old friends, and making new ones – truly a stellar evening that was Born to Fit indeed.
Erin
Talk about indecision, my goodness! The three new styles are so distinct, yet they all looked so good on everyone! I loved the soft material and the colors were perfect too, super similar to those million dollar pairs sold at the department stores! But man, the indecision! I grabbed a card to redeem my jeans in the store. This way, I can continue to mull it over!
In addition, I am not one for shopping with friends, I usually get the most accomplished by myself. Jeans, however, are a different story! I always want a few opinions before I make the purchase so this event really gave me the opportunity to get quite a few sets of eyes in one room, super fun and convenient!
Thanks a ton to Colleen, Brenna and Gap for hosting, branding, and making this night a blast!
-Jamie
Colleen,
The way that you are able to orchestrate such fun, thought out and laid back gatherings truly amazes me. You always think of the details beyond the norm.
I could not have asked for a better mix of ladies that I hardly knew yet went away feeling like I got to know rather well. The conversations, the relaxing environment and the energy in the room were all on point.
There is always something fun about trying on clothes with your girls. If you reflect back to the early years of pre-teen fashion shows and childhood dress up we've been doing this forever. How clever of Gap to allow us to try on jeans in the comfort of a friend's house (Brenna thank you so much!) and give each other advice on how your jeans look and fit. Just like the good old days, which as working women, we don't get enough quality girl time.
The new jeans definitely have much more attention to detail. I feel like they have made a line that all body shapes can fit into and feel good about. Love the pocket details, the washes and the fact that they thought about our bodies.
As a loyal Gap lover, I have seen it through the good, the bad and the great. I can openly admit that I have at least 8 pairs of Gap jeans currently in my closet. I am always thrilled when Gap amps up a product and makes it more appealing to its consumers.
Now that Gap has reached out in a fun and unique way, I can sheepishly say that "They had me at hello" and they will continue to hold on to me for much longer!
Thanks again to Gap, Colleen and Brenna!

Colleen -thanks so much for the invite. I had a fabulous time! You really made the event with your clever signs, CD and your great personality! I loved meeting your friends whom I haven't met yet, and what a fun way to meet them --trying on free jeans!
I love the always skinny jeans and can't wait to wear those with some boots this fall. Thanks again and so glad I could be a part of it!
-Molly
Ok, so I stopped in the Michigan Ave GAP on my way to work to pick up my Sext Boot Cuts, BUT all of the 1969 brand were $20 off, so I tried on four other styles. Plus, the Boyfriend style was on sale. I ended up with two pair of hot new jeans and I kept my voucher to go back and get another.
I'm Gap-tastic!! Thanks Col.
Wow, I am really impressed with how you orchestrated the jeans party. Only sorry I wasn't there for the fun and the jeans score.
You are officially in charge of all parties when you come home.
BORN TO SNUGGLE. I have been thinking about what I would put all day and after taking care of a sick baby all day, I decided snuggling with him really is my favorite thing in the world and I was made to do it. I am looking forward to going to Gap to try these jeans on!
Love the blog Colleen and look forward to seeing you shortly!
Go Gap!
Colleen-
What a great party!! I loved reading your blog - did not even know you had one. Hope all is well with you and your family - I am keeping up with Lauren through Becca! I was born . . . to not be statistically significant.
Love, Katherine
I was born to reproduce...otherwise, you would not be.
I was born to be a jean break-in specialist.
I'm not kidding. If there was such a position, I'd be a great candidate. The jeans I have have gotten broken in to such a point - and past it - that in some spots they are threadbare and far too overloved. They get love at concerts when I'm working in the photo pits, they come along for the ride and get lived in when I jump on tour vans for weeks at a time. They are there when I go to my first string of rock shows seeing my favorite band for the first time, and mark on the tag that they were there with me (yep, happened 11 years ago, no joke). The stories that are woven into the cotton threads are numerous, and I never can let them go after they're well past their prime. To a revered spot in the closet or drawer they go, with hopes that they'll be patched and sewn up for more adventures. =)

I was born to LIVE and make it count.
dude, i'll be in town later this week. i hope i see you at some point because i was also born to snack ;)
I was born to be a Marketers dream! I just read all comments, looked at pictures, got jealous of the pizza, CD, wine, and great company ... and ALL I can think about is how I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of these jeans! Totally sold without ever seeing them in person. :)

colleen! it was great seeing you on saturday -- and what an incredible story this is!! i'll have to high-tail it to the Gap on Michigan after hearing all these awesome things! So, i guess that means I was born to shop since i won't wait for your give away.
:-)
hope to see you soon!
~maggie
I was born to be a blog stalker, retail whore, and Petite advocate. Women 5'4 and under deserve great denim too! Can't wait to get to my local Gap and try these on. Great party!
I am wearing a pair of my Gap Jeans right now - the straights look super cute with flats or heels - proud to be rockin' them! Last night I saw a Gap billboard advertising the Born To Fit line with a guy wearing a pair. I am excited to see if they work for my man as he has a hard time finding jeans he likes.
The party was fantastic - the place looked great, great company and most importantly, now we all look great thanks to our new jeans!! Great way to kick off the fall fashion season - with free Born to Fit jeans!
Colleen,
I had such a blast at the party. Your innate over-achiever tendencies paid rich dividends – every detail of the evening was smart, thoughtful, and fun :)
I especially enjoyed the girly camaraderie of trying on (and re-trying on [and re-re-trying on]) the different fits and being each other’s stylists – “Those are cute on you! But have you tried the skinny ones yet? Here – try these on with some heels… your legs will look 10 miles long…”
I LOVE my sexy, sleek “real straight” jeans! Thanks again for the invite!
